Job description

An exciting new position to CDE, the successful candidate will contribute to CDE’s analysis and interpretation of policy issues and to engage directly with communities by:

  • Undertaking policy research and analysis
  • Conducting special investigations
  • Synthesising findings into draft CDE reports, position papers and other products
  • Establishing networks in cities, regions and nationally

 

Company Description

The Centre for Development and Enterprise (CDE) is an independent policy research and advocacy organisation. It is one of South Africa’s leading development think tanks, focusing on critical national development issues and their relationship to economic growth and democratic consolidation. Through examining South African realities and international experience, CDE formulates practical policy proposals outlining ways in which South Africa can tackle major social and economic challenges. CDE has a special focus on the role of business and markets in development.

Requirements

Required education and experience:

  • Honours degree in Political Science, Economics, Journalism, History or other relevant fields
  • Three years’ experience either of policy analysis in academia, public institutions, NGOs or think-tanks, or in investigative journalism
  • Code B driver’s licence

 

Key performance areas:

  1. Policy research and analysis
  2. Conducting of special investigations
  3. Writing and editing
  4. Production of high-quality reports and other outputs
  5. Networking with diverse stakeholders
  6. Representation of CDE in the “field”
  7. Any other reasonable and related tasks that may be assigned from time to time

 

Advantageous

Preferred education and experience:

  • Masters degree in Political Science, Economics, Journalism or other relevant fields
  • Five years’ experience either of policy analysis in academia, public institutions, NGOs or think-tanks, or in investigative journalism
