Job description
Our
client based in Cape Town has an opportunity for a Junior
data scientist with analytical capabilities, strong technical
proficiency and the ability to work in a matrix structured organisation. The individual will be required to work
independently and as part of team and produce work within a project delivery
environment
This role would be required to support business
objectives through:
-
Extracting, transforming and
inputting datasets from various sources. -
Translating business questions into
quantifiable analytical tasks. -
On-going analytics across various
products and initiatives. - Creating predictive and trend models.
- Coding methods for monitoring models.
- Communicating findings to team.
The ideal candidate will need to meet the following
requirements in order to perform optimally in this role:

An undergraduate degree (in a
numerical field) e.g. engineering, mathematics or statistics) is essential and
an honours qualification will be advantageous. - Two to three years analytical experience.
- Knowledge of retail, financial/credit environment.

Technical understanding and knowledge
of different operating systems/databases/programming languages like SQL or
SAS or R. -
An ability to work with large
datasets, discover the trends within data, visually display data and provide insights using
softwares such as Tableau, QlikView etc. -
Ability to create statistical/data
analysis reports on an ad hoc basis. -
A good understanding of statistical
methods and modelling skills such as non standard GLMs, clustering, and random forests. -
Business acumen with regards to understanding
technical issues and the impact these may have on the design and delivery of
business solutions.

ability to recognise data errors and inconsistencies. -
Ability to work quickly and
accurately on an independent and team level.
