Job description
A financial services company in the Southern Suburbs is looking for a certified Scrum master to join their rapidly changing IT department. The successful candidate must have a solid background in Scrum, Kanban and general software development practices, at least five years’ experience as a Scrum master.
- The Scrum Master is responsible for ensuring Scrum is understood and enacted.
- Scrum Masters do this by ensuring that the Scrum team adheres to Scrum theory, practices, and rules.
- The Scrum master is a servant-leader for the Scrum team.
- The Scrum master helps those outside the Scrum team understand which of their interactions with the Scrum team are helpful and which aren’t.
- The Scrum master helps everyone change these interactions to maximize the value created by the Scrum team.
- The Scrum master will be responsible for developing a culture of collaboration and trust within teams, while supporting their team to be self-organising and function as an accountable, high performance team.
- The incumbent will identify and facilitate the removal of impediments faced by their team during iterations.
- They will also be responsible for providing a safe environment for their team to reflect on previous delivery efforts in terms of predictability, quality and value add and drive continuous improvement
- The incumbent will work closely with other roles in the agile development process, including product owners, other scrum masters, others in their department, as well as business stakeholders in order to ensure that a shared understanding is held among all.
- Finding techniques for effective product backlog management.
- Helping the Scrum team understand the need for clear and concise product backlog items.
- Understanding product planning in an empirical environment.
- Ensuring the product owner knows how to arrange the product backlog to maximize value.
- Understanding and practicing agility and facilitating Scrum events as requested or needed.
- Coaching the development team in self-organization and cross-functionality.
- Helping the development team to create high-value products (visibility of Sprint backlog/Scrum board and an updated Sprint burn down chart).
- Removing impediments to the development team’s progress.
- Facilitating Scrum events as requested or needed and coaching the development team in organizational environments in which Scrum is not yet fully adopted and understood.
Requirements:
- Solid background in Scrum, Kanban and general software development practices.
- Relevant tertiary education or certification.
- Certified Scrum master.
- At least five years’ experience as a Scrum master.
- Understand fundamentals of iterative development and empirical processes.
- Understand basic fundamentals of software development processes including concepts such as TDD, BDD.
- Understand the value of commitments to delivery made by a development team.
