Copy-Editor Opportunity

The main responsibility is to sub-edit all print and digital copy for publication, ensuring that it is in Marie Claire style and tone, and that it is factually and grammatically correct. The copy editor is also responsible for compiling the contents page (with the features and chief copy editors), the stockists list and other ad hoc pages as requested.
The copy editor is responsible for all print, digital and mrketing/events promotional copy. This includes writing/compiling competition and advertorial pages in the magazine, subbing all promotional copy for online and writing/subbing ad hoc promotional material, working with the relevant teams.
The copy editor is required to contribute content to the Marie Claire website – writing copy, sourcing images, uploading content – as well as the brand’s social media feeds when required.
Essential duties and responsibilities will include:
1) To sub-edit all editorial, promotional and special projects copy for print and digital:
- editing and rewriting raw copy where required
- correcting factual and language errors
- ensuring that all copy is reader-friendly and in the Marie Claire style
- inputting requested changes accurately
- localising copy where necessary
- doing additional research when necessary
- formatting copy for layout
- watching out for inconsistencies, contradictions and repetitions
- helping to maintain the editorial standard of excellence
2) To make sure each page has all the necessary elements, which include:
- writing headlines, blurbs and captions
- checking layouts for consistency of straps, fonts, social media handles and general design style
- trimming copy to fit layouts
- checking bylines, credits and social media handles
- helping to compile the stockists list with the fashion team
3) Editing/writing
- promotions: chasing briefs and material from promo team
- writing promo copy to fit the client brief and Marie Claire style
- ensuring that all promotional pages are prioritised for client sign-off
- inputting client changes where required
- contributing/writing print/online copy when required
4) Production and workflow
- assisting with the production process by making and trafficking job bags
- keeping track of where job bags are at all times
- ensuring all pages are signed off by the relevant editors
- doing repro sends in the absence of the chief copy editor
Requirements
- Be a good team worker who can handle deadlines and work effectively under pressure
- a minimum of two years’ experience as a copy editor, working with editorial, online and client copy
- excellent organisational skills
- an excellent knowledge of English
- be a perfectionist and a stickler for detail
- have a good general knowledge and an interest in fashion, beauty and lifestyle
- know and understand the Marie Claire brand
- know and understand the demands of online content
- proficiency in InDesign is non-negotiable
