Job description

The purpose of this post is to support the department in pursuit of its academic objectives which include: teaching according to a set syllabus; undertake research and innovation; contribute to curriculum development and design; engage in work integrated learning, and service learning activities.

Minimum requirements:

  • Masters qualification in Radiography
  • HPCSA registration
  • Minimum three years clinical experience in radiography

Recommendations:

  • Recently completed Doctoral/PhD degree, or current registration towards a Doctoral/PhD in Radiography
  • Experience in higher education teaching and/or research

Key performance areas:

  • Facilitate academic teaching and learning and work integrated learning (WIL) for  BSc Radiography programs at the campus and at clinical training sites
  • Research  :
    • Conduct research and publish results
    • Supervise BTech and MTech research projects
  • Teaching and learning strategies :
    • Incorporate current and innovative trends in higher education
    • Develop appropriate learning material
    • Promote teaching and learning in a manner that is student focused and inculcates lifelong learning
  • Contribute towards curriculum development and review
  • Assessment:
    • Facilitate assessment
    • Monitor student progress
    • Apply appropriate interventional strategies for at risk students
  • Academic management:
    • Contribute to policy making, strategic planning and decision making regarding academic matters
    • Review teaching and learning strategies
    • Manage a course/programme (course leader)
    • Supervise teaching assistants, tutors and mentors
  • Academic administration:
    • Keep records of course material, students’ attendance, marks and progress reports
    • Write reports
    • Develop teaching and learning portfolio
  • Contribute towards marketing, recruitment and selection of students
  • Contribute towards community service
    • Incorporate service learning into curriculum
  • Contribute towards quality assurance of radiography programs
  • Consult and collaborate with the clinical platform (industry) to ensure good WIL practice
  • Continued professional development:
    • Contribute towards the offering of CPD activities
    • Keep up to date with advanced technology in medical  imaging and therapeutic sciences, current trends in higher education and  challenges in health care
  • Counsel students and monitor progress
  • Completion of a doctoral degree (if applicable) in the relevant field of specialization during the first three years of employment
  • Participation in all components of the nGAP development programme during the first six years of employment
