Maverick Life is the Daily Maverick’s culture, life and ideas section, a digital destination for life and cultural coverage by its staff writers and other contributors. Maverick Life stands apart for its unique web docuseries, its commitment to truth and accuracy, and for its dedication to unearthing important and unusual stories that shape the African narrative.

We are on the lookout for two enthusiastic interns with a big passion for magazine-style writing – think 1843, the New Yorker – and video, to work with our team during three months; you don’t have to be skilled in video/multimedia journalism, but having an interest in multimedia journalism is a bonus!

 Our ideal candidates are motivated, hard-working, proactive, creative, multitaskers with great written and verbal communication skills.

You need to know:

• The position is based in Cape Town only
• The position is full-time for a minimum of three months with an option to extend to six months

• Excellent writing skills. We are looking for someone who is able to pitch topical, informative and inspirational stories, write weekly short- and long-form features, conduct interviews and in-depth reviews
• An insatiable curiosity for life – culture, dance, music, art, architecture, motoring, design, fashion, beauty and more.
• A keen eye for detail and love for research
