Remuneration:negotiable Location:Johannesburg, Ferndale RandburgRemote work:Not ApplicableEducation level:DiplomaJob level:Junior/MidReference:#NATV98Company:Newzroom AfrikaJob descriptionJob purposeThe audio assistant is responsible for helping the sound engineer, set up the required audio equipment in the studio, including the placement of microphones, earpieces on the presenters and guestsKey responsibilities:Prepare and test microphones, earpieces and foldback on the studio floorCheck and allocate batteries throughout the shiftTesting audio equipment for volume, tone, and clarityBrief the audio engineer on mic allocation ensuring the engineer controls the correct mics on the consoleSetting up additional audio equipment for in-studio performancesChecking microphone frequency allocation ensures no frequency clashesEnsure anchors have redundancy mics for failoverMic guests and prepare them for in-studio interviewsOperate the mixing console on request from the audio engineerDe-mic guests and anchors before they leave the studio and check equipment for faultsReport faults to audio engineer and technical director on dutyReport faulty equipment to Engineering and Camera Store Coordinators. RequirementsMatric plus a relevant certificate/diploma/degree in a field related to broadcast audio.A minimum of one year of experience in an audio assistant role.Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.Must be an effective learner, with a curiosity and desire to learn and understand the entire scope of needs in the studio and control room.Able to make quick decisions and give accurate instructions during live broadcasts.Possess a strong fundamental understanding of video and audio production equipment and capabilitiesAbility to follow instructions and remain professional under pressure in a live environmentExcellent customer service and interpersonal skills.Troubleshooting and diagnostic skillsGood multi-tasking skills.Excellent computer skills.Willingness to work varied shiftsCompany DescriptionNewzroom Afrika is a premier South African 24-hour TV news channel broadcasting in Southern Africa, East and West Africa.Posted on 08 Apr 13:06, Closing date 20 Apr
