The South African is looking for a fashion and beauty writer with strong reporting and writing skills to join the fashion and beauty department in our fast-growing Lifestyle segment. 

This person should have a passion for all aspects of fashion, celebrity style and beauty – from red carpet and street style trends to beauty product launches, hacks and industry news. 

In addition to being fashion-obsessed, you should be an avid reader who is up to date on the latest news in culture and current events; an interest in sustainability and fashion’s environmental and social impact is also encouraged.

You must be an accurate, fast writer who understands The South African’s voice and have a strong sense of what style and beauty content does and does not perform online. You are committed to size inclusivity and representation in style and beauty, and can pull unique angles out of the daily news cycle . Coming into this role with strong industry relationships is a major plus.

Essential skills required:

  • Pitch and write six stories daily (from reported features to breaking news, designer interviews, trend stories, etc)
  • Develop strong relationships with designers, PRs, and fashion insiders
  • Represent fashion and beauty department at industry events

Minimum qualifications and job requirements:

Experience:

Three+ years experience as a fashion and beauty writer at an online publication

Specific knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Love of fashion, beauty, style, and pop culture/celebrity
  • Ability to write and self-edit stories quickly
  • Breadth of industry and fashion contacts
  • Experience working on tight deadlines and executing strong copy under pressure
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced, dynamic, and digital-first environment
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and SEO; understanding of how to measure success and use data to drive content planning.
