About the Role
As a Steward, your primary responsibility will be to ensure that officers’ accommodations are clean and that galley areas are hygienically maintained. You’ll assist the cook with meal preparation, cleaning, stock management, and ensure all living and food preparation spaces aboard the dredger are kept in top condition. This role is ideal for individuals with prior experience on a vessel and a strong commitment to cleanliness, organization, and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain officers’ accommodations and onboard toilets
  • Support the Cook in daily galley operations and food preparation
  • Wash dishes, cutlery, and assist in mess room duties
  • Set up the mess room for meals and maintain hygiene standards
  • Assist with victualising and stock-taking operations
  • Help in packing and cleaning stores, fridges, and laundry rooms

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Valid SAMSA medical certificate
  • STCW-compliant (including ancillary courses)
  • At least 1 year of experience as a steward on a vessel is advantageous
  • A Basic Certificate of Competency will be considered an added advantage

Core Competencies

  • Strong understanding of hygiene practices aboard marine vessels
  • Familiarity with catering hygiene principles
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Neatness and a high attention to detail
  • Effective communication in English
  • Ability to plan and execute cleaning and stock-related tasks efficiently
