Position Overview
The Casual Merchandiser will play an important role in maintaining merchandising standards and providing excellent customer service. This position forms part of Dis-Chem’s strategic talent pool, designed to have a pre-screened group of candidates ready for future opportunities.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate (essential)
- Up to 6 months’ retail experience
- Basic computer literacy (MS Office)
- Willingness and ability to work retail hours
Candidates with at least 1 year of retail experience will have an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
The main duties for this role include:
- Restocking shelves to maximize sales
- Properly unpacking and placing stock from deliveries or storerooms
- Monitoring product sell-by dates
- Ensuring full product ranges are always displayed
- Facilitating stock rotation following FIFO (First In, First Out) principles
- Reporting low stock, out-of-stock items, damaged goods, and expired stock
- Assisting with stock counts and general stocktaking
- Following store layout plans and planograms
- Keeping store displays neat and well-labelled with correct pricing
- Reporting pricing discrepancies to management
- Staying updated on current and new products
- Building and maintaining merchandising displays
- Assisting with the physical upkeep of the store
- Handling back shopping and loading/off-loading stock
- Ensuring all products have barcodes or clear markings
- Supporting the training of new staff
- Providing friendly, efficient customer service
- Addressing customer stock queries and updating the customer service out-of-stock list
- Wearing the correct uniform and name badge at all times
- Minimising stock losses through careful handling

- An understanding of merchandising standards and the FMCG industry (advantageous)
