Position Overview

The Casual Merchandiser will play an important role in maintaining merchandising standards and providing excellent customer service. This position forms part of Dis-Chem’s strategic talent pool, designed to have a pre-screened group of candidates ready for future opportunities.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Grade 12 / Matric certificate (essential)
• Up to 6 months’ retail experience
• Basic computer literacy (MS Office)
• Willingness and ability to work retail hours

Candidates with at least 1 year of retail experience will have an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

The main duties for this role include:

• Restocking shelves to maximize sales
• Properly unpacking and placing stock from deliveries or storerooms
• Monitoring product sell-by dates
• Ensuring full product ranges are always displayed
• Facilitating stock rotation following FIFO (First In, First Out) principles
• Reporting low stock, out-of-stock items, damaged goods, and expired stock
• Assisting with stock counts and general stocktaking
• Following store layout plans and planograms
• Keeping store displays neat and well-labelled with correct pricing
• Reporting pricing discrepancies to management
• Staying updated on current and new products
• Building and maintaining merchandising displays
• Assisting with the physical upkeep of the store
• Handling back shopping and loading/off-loading stock
• Ensuring all products have barcodes or clear markings
• Supporting the training of new staff
• Providing friendly, efficient customer service
• Addressing customer stock queries and updating the customer service out-of-stock list
• Wearing the correct uniform and name badge at all times
• Minimising stock losses through careful handling
