About the Role
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting pharmaceutical services by meeting patients’ medicine-related needs under the guidance of a responsible pharmacist. You’ll assist with dispensing, managing inventory, and providing accurate medical advice while ensuring legal and professional compliance.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
- Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
- Experience working on Unisolv
- Computer literate (MS Office)
- Strong numerical and communication skills
- Fluent in English and one additional South African language
- Willing and able to work retail hours
Advantageous
- Knowledge of FMCG or retail pharmacy operations
- Third additional language
- Experience with SAP, E-Scripting
- Familiarity with drug and family planning or complementary medicine
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Sell Schedule 1 and 2 medicines and assist with non-sterile medicine preparation
- Re-package and manage medicine distribution (Schedule 1–5)
- Assist in ordering and stocking up to Schedule 6 medications
- Read and process prescriptions, ensuring correct interpretation and evaluation
- Pack, label, and check medication accurately
- Offer clear instructions to patients about medicine usage
- Handle prescription claims and resolve medical aid rejections
- Support patients with chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication authorisations
- Maintain and update customer profiles and merge duplicate records
- Report out-of-stock and low-stock situations to the dispensary manager
- Receive and merchandise dispensary stock according to Dis-Chem SOPs
- Take part in regular stock takes and manage risk stock appropriately
- Maintain a professional, ethical, and customer-focused environment
