About the Role
As a Casual Merchandiser, your primary responsibility will be to maintain high merchandising standards according to Dis-Chem’s guidelines while delivering outstanding customer service. You’ll play a key role in stock management, display upkeep, and ensuring a smooth shopping experience for customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Restock merchandise promptly to maximize sales opportunities
- Ensure proper storage and packing of stock received or pulled from the storeroom
- Monitor sell-by dates and rotate stock regularly using FIFO (First In, First Out) methods
- Maintain a full range of products on shelves at all times
- Report stock shortages, damaged or expired items to management
- Assist with stocktaking and counting stock files
- Adhere to store layout plans and Dis-Chem merchandising standards
- Keep shelves and product displays neat, properly labeled, and priced correctly
- Manage unloading/loading of stock and ensure barcode visibility on all items
- Support customer queries related to stock availability and follow up accordingly
- Assist in training new staff and help maintain health and safety standards
- Wear the correct uniform and maintain a professional appearance
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
- Up to 6 months of retail experience (1 year preferred)
- Basic computer literacy, especially MS Office
- Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and evenings
- Physical fitness to lift and move stock safely
- Reliable transport or reside near the Verdi store
- South African citizen with clear criminal and credit records
Skills and Competencies
- Strong command of English and excellent communication skills
- Presentable and professional demeanor
- Ability to engage effectively with customers, management, and colleagues
- Trustworthy, honest, and reliable
- Good time management skills
- Knowledge of merchandising and FMCG retail is a plus
- Bilingualism and ability to analyze stock reports are advantageous
