Blockman Position at Pick n Pay – Klerksdorp, North West

Role Overview
The Blockman will operate all butchery equipment, including the bandsaw, and manage meat preparation according to company standards. You will be responsible for maintaining the cold chain, preventing waste, and ensuring hygiene and safety compliance in the butchery.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate butchery equipment safely, reporting defects to the Butchery Manager.
- Prepare and break various meat carcasses according to specifications.
- De-bone meat cuts and manufacture products such as mince, sausage, and boerewors.
- Merchandise and promote stock in line with company procedures.
- Prevent wastage, shrinkage, and damage of products.
- Monitor cold chain and check temperatures regularly.
- Provide courteous and professional customer service.
- Maintain high levels of cleanliness for all equipment and utensils.
- Assist with receiving meat deliveries from suppliers.
- Train staff on new products and butchery procedures.
- Comply with medical criteria under the OHS Act.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- Customer-minded and a strong team player.
- Good communication skills, able to listen and respond appropriately.
- Passion for meat products and urgency in completing tasks.
- Ability to work accurately and follow instructions.
- Physical ability to lift carcasses and meat containers.
- Ability to work in cold environments.
Skills and Competencies
- Experience in cutting, manufacturing, and producing various meat products such as loin chops and roasts.
- Ability to operate and maintain butchery equipment safely.
- Willingness to develop skills and seek growth opportunities.
- Numeracy skills to complete company assessments successfully.
Special Conditions
