Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking Casual Merchandisers for their Irene Link store in Pretoria, Gauteng. This part-time role is ideal for individuals looking to gain experience in retail and build a foundation in merchandising and customer service. Applications close on 02 September 2025.
Role Overview
The Casual Merchandiser will maintain Dis-Chem’s merchandising standards and ensure products are presented and stocked correctly. You will interact with customers, assist in stock management, and support store operations. The role forms part of a strategic talent pool for future opportunities within the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Restock merchandise to maximize sales
- Ensure stock from deliveries or storerooms is properly stored and shelved
- Monitor sell-by dates and rotate stock using FIFO methods
- Report low stock levels, out-of-stock items, damaged or expired stock
- Assist with stock counts and general stocktaking
- Maintain store layout, planograms, and merchandising displays
- Flatten and store boxes after unpacking stock
- Ensure front shop shelves are neat, visible, and correctly priced
- Build and maintain merchandising displays
- Support loading, off-loading, and back shopping of stock
- Assist in training new staff
- Provide courteous customer service and resolve stock queries
- Wear the correct uniform and badge
- Handle merchandise carefully to minimize losses
- Adhere to Dis-Chem policies, SOPs, and health and safety rules
Requirements
Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Up to 6 months retail experience
- Computer literacy in MS Office
- Ability to work retail hours
Advantageous:
- At least 1 year of retail experience
- Bilingual skills
- Knowledge of merchandising standards and FMCG industry
- Product and category knowledge
- Ability to analyse ZMORE reports for stock management
Special Conditions:
- Physically fit to lift and move heavy boxes
- Reliable transport or reside close to the store
- South African citizen with clear credit and criminal records
