Dis-Chem Pharmacies is hiring a Casual Merchandiser for its Bayside Mall store in Cape Town, Western Cape. This contract position offers entry-level candidates an opportunity to gain retail experience while working with one of South Africa’s leading pharmacy groups.

Job Purpose

The Merchandiser will ensure that Dis-Chem’s merchandising standards are implemented and maintained in-store. The role includes stocking shelves, maintaining product displays, assisting with customer queries, and supporting the store team to maximise sales.

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

• Grade 12 / Matric.
• Up to 6 months retail experience.
• Computer literacy (MS Office).
• Willingness and ability to work retail hours.

Advantageous:

• At least 1 year retail experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Restock merchandise to maximise sales opportunities.
• Store and pack delivered stock in the correct areas promptly.
• Ensure stock on shelves is within sell-by dates.
• Keep the full range of products available on shelves.
• Rotate stock regularly using FIFO principles.
• Report low stock, out-of-stock, damaged, or expired items to management.
• Assist with stock counting and general stocktaking.
• Follow store layout, planograms, and merchandising standards.
• Maintain neat product displays with correct pricing and labels.
• Report pricing discrepancies to management.
• Build and maintain merchandising displays.
• Maintain the store’s cleanliness and physical presentation.
• Load and off-load stock as required.
• Ensure items without barcodes are clearly marked.
• Assist with back shopping and training of new staff.
• Provide helpful and courteous customer assistance.
• Follow up on out-of-stock queries using the customer service list.
• Wear correct uniform and badge at all times.
• Minimise losses by handling merchandise with care.
• Adhere to Dis-Chem policies, SOPs, and health and safety rules.
