Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant Opportunity at Dis-Chem Kyalami, Midrand

Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited is seeking a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its Kyalami store in Midrand, Gauteng. This permanent position focuses on providing pharmaceutical care while ensuring patients’ medicine-related needs are met accurately and professionally. The role requires accountability, attention to detail, and adherence to South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) regulations.

Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet the following qualifications and criteria:

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification.
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
  • Working experience on Unisolv.
  • Computer literacy including MS Office.
  • Strong numerical skills.
  • Proficiency in English and a second language.
  • Willingness to work retail hours.

Advantageous skills include: knowledge of retail/FMCG operations, a third language, SAP and E-Scripting experience, and knowledge of drug and family planning or complementary medicine.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant will work under the supervision of a pharmacist and perform duties including:

  • Assisting with the sale, compounding, manipulation, preparation, and repackaging of medicines and scheduled substances.
  • Supporting manufacturing of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and SOPs.
  • Controlling stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines and assisting with ordering up to Schedule 6 medicines.
  • Reading, preparing, and accurately interpreting prescriptions in compliance with SAPC regulations.
  • Capturing script details and verifying patient information on the system.
  • Picking, packing, labelling, and checking medications while monitoring dosages and drug interactions.
  • Providing patients with accurate instructions on medicine usage.
  • Advising patients in the dispensary and front-shop, and managing medical aid claims and authorizations for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication.
  • Maintaining and merging customer profiles, handling messages on profiles, and performing follow-ups.
  • Reporting low or out-of-stock items and discrepancies to the dispensary manager.
  • Receiving and merchandising stock according to SOPs and facilitating bi-annual stock takes.
  • Exercising stock, cash, and asset control.
