Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant Opportunity at Dis-Chem Waterfall
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its new Waterfall store in Midrand, Gauteng. This permanent position offers an opportunity to provide professional pharmaceutical care while supporting patients with their medicine-related needs. Applications close on 21 September 2025.
Job Overview
The role involves assisting the pharmacist in dispensing medicines, managing stock, and providing accurate information to patients. You will be accountable for ensuring that prescriptions are correctly processed and that patients receive safe and effective care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the sale and dispensing of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines
- Support compounding, preparation, and repackaging of non-sterile medicines under pharmacist supervision
- Assist with ordering medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6
- Interpret prescriptions accurately and prepare medications according to standard operating procedures
- Capture prescription and patient details accurately in the system
- Ensure correct labelling, picking, and packing of medicines, including advising patients on proper usage
- Maintain customer profiles, merge duplicates, and follow up on script tracking reports
- Handle medical aid claims, correct errors, and authorise chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication
- Monitor stock levels, report discrepancies, and assist with bi-annual stock takes
- Follow all legal, safety, and security protocols in the dispensary
- Provide information to promote health and wellness
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Matric certificate
- Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
- Experience working with Unisolv and MS Office
- Strong numerical skills and proficiency in English and a second language
- Willingness to work retail hours
Advantageous Skills
- Knowledge of Retail/FMCG operations
- Third additional language
- Experience with SAP and E-Scripting
- Knowledge of drug and family planning or complementary medicine
