Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited is recruiting a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its Birch Acres branch in Kempton Park, Gauteng. This permanent position was posted on 19 August 2025 and applications close on 18 September 2025.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric
• Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification
• Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
• Experience using Unisolv
• Computer literacy in MS Office
• Strong numerical ability
• Proficiency in English plus a second language
• Availability to work retail hours

Advantageous Skills

• Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations
• Ability to communicate in a third language
• Experience with SAP and E-Scripting
• Knowledge of family planning, complementary medicine, and drug therapy

Duties and Responsibilities

• Sell Schedule 1 and 2 medicines within legal requirements
• Assist with compounding and preparation of non-sterile medicines under pharmacist supervision
• Repackage and distribute stock of Schedule 1 to 5 medicines
• Process orders for Schedule 6 medicines as authorized
• Read and prepare prescriptions, ensuring correct selection, compounding, labelling, and supply
• Capture and verify patient script details on the system
• Pick, pack, and label medication accurately with awareness of dosages and drug interactions
• Advise patients on correct use of medication
• Stay updated on medical aid requirements for claims and dispensing
• Ensure all medicines are checked and signed by a pharmacist
• Handle patient inquiries at the dispensary and front shop
• Manage script tracking reports and follow up with patients
• Explain medical aid costs and process claim paperwork
• Correct rejected scripts and secure authorization for chronic and specialized medication
• Maintain and update customer profiles
• Monitor stock levels, report errors, and receive dispensary stock per SOPs
• Support bi-annual stock takes and exercise stock and asset control
