Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited is offering a fixed-term contract for Dispensary Support at its Walmer Park store in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. Role Overview
The Dispensary Support position provides hands-on experience in a pharmacy setting. Staff will be employed on a fixed-term basis until they qualify as basic pharmacist assistants. Once registered with the SAPC, permanent employment may be offered. The role promotes practical learning and familiarizes learners with pharmaceutical operations, medication handling, and customer service.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform tasks under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, including:
- Sale of Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances.
- Assist in compounding, preparation, and manipulation of non-sterile medicines following SOPs.
- Unpack, merchandise, and maintain dispensary and OTC shelves.
- Interpret prescriptions accurately and professionally within SAPC legal guidelines.
- Pick, pack, label, and check medications for accuracy; ensure pharmacist verification.
- Assist with stock control, including organization, cleanliness, and monitoring expiry dates of Schedule 1-5 medicines.
- Follow up with patients regarding scripts, appointments, and authorizations for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medications.
- Support call center scripts and patient service calls.
- Report stock shortages or errors to the dispensary manager.
- Receive dispensary stock according to company SOPs.
Job Requirements
- Grade 12 or Senior Certificate with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Science, or Physical Science and a minimum overall average of 50%.
- Completion of a proficiency test to register with SAPC as a learner basic assistant.
- South African citizen with clear criminal and credit record.
Competencies
- Strong English proficiency and a second language.
- Time management, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent communication, customer service, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.
- Computer literacy and numerical skills.
- Advantageous: retail or FMCG experience, Dis-Chem front shop knowledge, drug and family planning expertise, familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting.
