Gauteng Department of Health Pharmacy Internship Programme – 2026

The Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) is inviting applications for its 2026 Pharmacy Internship Programme. This programme offers pharmacy graduates an opportunity to gain practical experience in public sector healthcare facilities across Gauteng. Applications are open from 13 October to 31 October 2025.

Application Process

The GDoH is an affirmative action employer committed to equity in service delivery. Internship positions are available at registered hospitals and district pharmacies for a 12-month period starting from registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC). Internships follow the SAPC’s official rules and programme.

Applicants must submit:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) no longer than four pages
  • Certified copies of ID and Matric Certificate (certified within the last 3 months)
  • Academic transcripts (up to the third year or further)
  • Testimonial letter from a university lecturer
  • Hospital preferences: select one Central/Tertiary/Specialised, one Regional, and one District Hospital
  • Motivation letter explaining interest in public sector pharmacy

For queries, contact Ms. S. Kubheka at 068 424 0059, Ms. S. Ndevu at 083 403 8346, or email HealthInternships@gauteng.gov.za.

Important Guidelines

Applicants must provide current contact details, including telephone number, email, and address. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered. Internships are expected to commence on the first working day of January 2026. Selection will begin in November 2025, with offers emailed to successful applicants.

Interns may only begin duties after SAPC registration. Failure in the final pharmacy degree examination disqualifies applicants. Internship duration is strictly 12 months, with extensions considered only in exceptional cases.
