Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its The Verge store in Edenvale, Gauteng. This permanent position offers an opportunity to provide high-quality pharmaceutical care while supporting patients’ medicine-related needs. Applications close on 16 December 2025.

Position Overview
The Pharmacist Assistant will assist with dispensing, compounding, and managing medicines in compliance with legal and professional standards. The role requires accuracy, attention to detail, and strong customer service skills, ensuring patients receive the correct medication and guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines.
  • Support the compounding, manipulation, and preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and SOPs.
  • Re-package, distribute, and control stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines.
  • Assist with ordering medicines, including Schedule 6, under authorised instructions.
  • Read and prepare prescriptions, label and supply medicine following pharmacist evaluation.
  • Capture prescription details accurately and verify patient information in the system.
  • Ensure correct picking, packing, and checking of medications while being aware of dosages and drug interactions.
  • Provide accurate instructions to patients on medication use and medical aid processes.
  • Maintain customer profiles, merge profiles when necessary, and track prescriptions.
  • Report low or out-of-stock items and assist with stock management and bi-annual stocktakes.
  • Follow Dis-Chem SOPs for stock receipt, merchandising, and asset control.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification.
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
  • Experience with Unisolv system and MS Office proficiency.
  • Strong numerical skills and command of English and a second language.
  • Willingness to work retail hours.

Advantageous Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations.
  • Third additional language.
  • Experience with SAP and E-Scripting.
  • Knowledge of drug and family planning or complementary medicine.
