Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant Opportunity at Dis-Chem Pharmacies Greystone

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant to join their Greystone store in Rustenburg, North West. This permanent position offers entry-level professionals the opportunity to provide pharmaceutical care while being accountable for patients’ medicine-related needs. The role involves supporting pharmacists in dispensing, compounding, and managing medicines, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and exceptional patient service in a retail pharmacy environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Support compounding, preparation, and manufacturing of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and SOPs
  • Re-package and distribute medicines, maintaining stock control for Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 substances
  • Order medicines up to Schedule 6 under pharmacist supervision
  • Read and prepare prescriptions, label, and supply medicines following pharmacist evaluation
  • Capture script details accurately and verify patient information
  • Provide accurate instructions to patients regarding medicine usage
  • Advise patients on self-medication, medical aid costs, and health promotion
  • Maintain customer profiles, merge duplicates, and track prescriptions as required
  • Receive, merchandise, and manage dispensary stock, including facilitating bi-annual stock takes
  • Exercise control over stock, cash, and dispensary assets

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
  • Experience with Unisolv
  • Computer literate, including MS Office
  • Strong numerical skills and command of English plus a second language
  • Willingness to work retail hours

Advantageous Skills

  • Knowledge of Retail/FMCG operations
  • Third additional language
  • Experience with SAP and E-Scripting
  • Knowledge of drug and family planning, and complementary medicine
