Job Overview
The Shop Assistant / Cashier role focuses on delivering efficient point of sale service while ensuring a positive customer experience in-store. You will handle customer transactions, process payments accurately, and support ClubCard enrolment and promotions. The role also involves maintaining merchandising standards and supporting general store operations. You will play a key role in ensuring customers receive fast, friendly, and accurate service at all times. Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and a customer-first mindset are essential in this role.
Key Responsibilities
• Process customer transactions accurately at point of sale
• Handle cash, card payments, and ensure correct change handling
• Promote and enrol customers into the Clicks ClubCard programme
• Support in-store promotions and communicate offers to customers
• Maintain accuracy when scanning items and processing sales
• Deliver friendly and professional customer service at all times
• Assist with merchandising and stock display standards
• Maintain cleanliness and general housekeeping in the store
• Ensure compliance with cash handling and store policies
• Provide accurate product and promotion information to customers
• Support stock management and basic store operations
• Assist with maintaining a safe and secure retail environment
Requirements And Skills
• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Experience in retail or FMCG environment is an advantage
• Strong customer service orientation
• Good numerical and basic maths ability
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Attention to detail and accuracy in cash handling
• Basic computer literacy
• Team player with a positive attitude
• Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and holidays
• Problem-solving and conflict handling ability
• Ability to follow procedures and company standards
