Job Overview

The Junior Software Tester will be responsible for testing software applications, documenting test results, reporting defects and verifying software fixes. The role involves testing both client-side hardware, including routers, switches and IP phones, as well as server-side systems. You will collaborate with multiple stakeholders to improve software quality while gaining practical experience through structured on-the-job training. This position is suited to someone with strong analytical skills, attention to detail and an interest in networking, Python and Linux technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform software testing on client-side and server-side systems.
• Test networking hardware including routers, switches and IP phones.
• Create, execute and document software test cases.
• Improve existing testing procedures and documentation.
• Identify, document and report software bugs and defects.
• Track reported issues and monitor progress of bug fixes.
• Test and verify software updates and implemented fixes.
• Upgrade client and server hardware with approved software fixes.
• Troubleshoot software and hardware issues during testing.
• Communicate testing progress and results to stakeholders.
• Work closely with vendors, customers and internal teams.
• Perform additional duties assigned by management when required.

Requirements and Skills

• Computer Science degree, diploma or certificate.
• Understanding of broadband services.
• One to two years of software testing experience will be advantageous.
• Knowledge of Python programming.
• Experience with Linux operating systems.
• Understanding of the TR-069 protocol will be beneficial.
• Good networking knowledge.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Good planning and organisational skills.
• Customer service mindset and teamwork abilities.

Working Conditions

• Permanent position subject to a successful three-month probation period.
• Office-based role in Centurion.
• Working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00.

• Reliable transport to and from the office is required.
• Valid driver’s licence and own vehicle are essential.
• Fibre internet connectivity at home is required, with fibre line rental provided as a company benefit.
