Dis-Chem Pharmacies is recruiting a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant (PBQ) for its new store in Ficksburg, Free State. As a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant, you will work under the supervision of a responsible pharmacist to provide quality pharmaceutical care. You will assist with dispensing medication, managing prescriptions, maintaining stock control and ensuring patients receive accurate advice regarding the safe use of their medicines. Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines and scheduled substances.
• Support the compounding, preparation and manufacturing of non-sterile medicines according to approved procedures.
• Assist with the repackaging of medicines.
• Manage the distribution and control of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines.
• Assist with ordering medicines and scheduled substances up to Schedule 6 as authorised.
• Read, prepare and process prescriptions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
• Accurately capture prescription details and verify patient information.
• Pick, pack, label and prepare medication accurately.
• Provide patients with clear instructions on the correct use of prescribed medication.
• Monitor important drug interactions and standard dosage requirements.
• Keep up to date with medical aid procedures and dispensing requirements.
• Ensure all prescriptions are checked and signed by the responsible pharmacist.
• Assist customers with dispensary and self-medication enquiries.
• Follow up on prescription tracking reports and patient appointments.
• Explain medical aid costs and authorisation processes to patients.
• Process medical aid claims accurately and resolve rejected claims.
• Manage authorisations for chronic, HIV, AIDS and oncology medication.
• Maintain and update customer profiles on the pharmacy system.
• Report stock shortages, stock errors and expired products.
• Receive and merchandise dispensary stock according to FEFO principles.
• Assist with bi-annual stock takes.
• Maintain accurate stock, cash and asset control.

Requirements and Skills

• Grade 12 (Matric).
• Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification.
• Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
• Working knowledge of Unisolv.
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
• Strong numerical skills.
• Excellent command of English and a second language.
• Willingness to work retail hours.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Good problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Honest, trustworthy and dependable.
• Strong time management skills.
• Team player with a professional attitude.

Advantageous:

• Knowledge of retail or FMCG operations.
• Third additional language.
• Experience with SAP and E-Scripting.
• Knowledge of drug and family planning products and complementary medicine.

Special conditions of employment include registration with the South African Pharmacy Council, willingness to work retail trading hours, the ability to stand for extended periods, a valid driver’s licence and clear credit and criminal records.
