Job Overview
The Work Integrated Learning Trainee Programme falls under the Transnet Corporate Centre and the TA, FOLDRS & FUNC Youth Development department. Successful learners will report to the Specialist: Youth Development and will be appointed within the Trainee employee group at Grade TN. The programme focuses on providing practical workplace experience while allowing participants to apply the knowledge gained through their Office Management studies.
Learners will support departments with routine operational and administrative activities while working under supervision. The programme also includes mentorship, training, research, reporting and exposure to workplace processes. Participants will be expected to demonstrate professionalism, willingness to learn, good communication and the ability to work effectively with colleagues and other stakeholders.
Position Purpose
The purpose of the Work Integrated Learning programme is to provide students and recent graduates with practical workplace experience in a professional environment. The programme allows participants to apply academic knowledge to real workplace situations while developing practical skills and professional confidence.
During the 18-month programme, learners will receive exposure to industry-specific tasks and workplace processes. They will work alongside experienced professionals, participate in training and mentorship activities and contribute to assigned projects. This experience can help participants build the workplace competencies needed to improve their future employment prospects.
Key Responsibilities
Successful learners will assist with projects and routine activities within their assigned department or workstream. They will work under supervision while developing an understanding of workplace procedures and expectations.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the academic and programme requirements before applying. The opportunity is aimed at candidates who have completed the theoretical component of an Office Management programme at a TVET College and require workplace exposure.
The requirements include:
- Matric certificate or equivalent.
- Completion of all theoretical subjects from N4 to N6 in Office Management at a TVET College.
- South African citizenship.
- Must be between 18 and 35 years old.
- Proof of a recent confirmation letter from the educational institution.
- Certified copy of Matric certificate.
- Certified academic record.
- Certified copy of South African ID.
- No bursary obligation with another company.

Learning and Development Opportunities

Workplace Exposure
Learners will be placed at one of the available Transnet locations, including Germiston, Koedoespoort, Salt River, Durban, Bloemfontein or Uitenhage. The exact placement will depend on operational requirements and available opportunities.
The role may involve interaction with internal teams, customers and suppliers. Learners will receive supervised exposure to assigned projects and administrative functions while following Transnet policies and workplace procedures. They will also be expected to comply with all applicable health, safety, ethical and confidentiality requirements.
