Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited is currently inviting applications for a Casual Merchandiser position at their Sitari Fields store in Macassar, Cape Town. About the Role
The Casual Merchandiser will play a crucial role in maintaining Dis-Chem’s high merchandising standards and ensuring excellent customer service throughout the store. Responsibilities include restocking merchandise, monitoring product expiry dates, managing stock rotation, and supporting general store upkeep.
Key Responsibilities
- Restock merchandise promptly to maximise sales opportunities
- Store and organise stock delivered or pulled from the storeroom correctly and on time
- Monitor shelf stock for expiry dates and rotate stock regularly using the FIFO (First In, First Out) method
- Ensure all products are correctly labelled with prices and visibly presented on the shelves
- Report low stock levels, damaged or expired items to management
- Assist with stocktaking and maintaining accurate stock files
- Build and maintain attractive merchandising displays
- Provide friendly, helpful, and courteous customer service at all times
- Assist with loading and off-loading stock and general back shopping
- Follow Dis-Chem’s policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations
- Wear the correct uniform and badge during shifts
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate
- Up to 6 months’ retail experience (1 year preferred)
- Computer literate, particularly with Microsoft Office applications
- Willingness and ability to work retail hours
- Strong command of English, presentable and professional
- Reliable transport or residence close to the store
- South African citizenship with clear credit and criminal records
- Physically fit to handle lifting and moving stock boxes safely
Preferred Competencies
- Bilingualism is an advantage
- Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG industry
- Product and category knowledge
- Ability to analyse ZMORE reports for stock ordering and taking
- Trustworthiness, honesty, and good time management skills
- Effective communication skills with customers, management, and colleagues
