Dis-Chem Pharmacies Seeks Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for Hermanus Branch
Dis-Chem Pharmacies is currently recruiting a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant to join their team in Hermanus, Western Cape. Who Should Apply?
Candidates must have:
- A Grade 12 / Matric certificate
- A Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
- Active registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
Added advantages include:
- Experience in Retail/FMCG environments
- Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, or E-Scripting systems
- Knowledge of oncology, family planning, and complementary medicine
- The ability to speak a third additional language
Role Responsibilities
The successful candidate will play a vital support role within the dispensary team, handling day-to-day responsibilities such as:
- Selling Schedule 1 and 2 medications under pharmacist supervision
- Assisting with the preparation, compounding, or packaging of non-sterile medicines
- Supporting the distribution and stock control of medicines (Schedules 1–5)
- Processing prescriptions with high accuracy, including script capturing, picking, packing, and labelling
- Educating patients on correct medicine usage and answering relevant health questions
- Managing patient profiles and claims, including handling rejected claims and medication authorizations
- Ensuring stock levels are maintained, correctly merchandised, and aligned with FEFO procedures
- Participating in stock takes and maintaining overall asset control in the dispensary
Competencies Required
To thrive in this role, applicants should demonstrate:
- Excellent communication skills in English and at least one other language
- A strong focus on customer service and attention to detail
- The ability to manage time effectively and work well under pressure
- Good numerical skills, problem-solving ability, and a team-oriented mindset
- Computer literacy, particularly in MS Office
Special Conditions of Employment

- Be registered with SAPC
- Willing to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
- Be physically fit, as the role requires long hours on your feet
- Have a valid South African driver’s license and clear criminal and credit records
