About the Role
As a Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant, you will support the dispensary team in delivering effective medicine management and superior customer service. You’ll play a vital role in patient care by assisting with prescription fulfilment, medication counselling, stock control, and day-to-day dispensary operations.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification
- SAPC registration (Post Basic qualification required)
- Willing and able to work retail hours
- Physically fit and capable of standing for extended periods
- Valid South African driver’s license
- Clear credit and criminal records
Experience That Gives You an Edge
- Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, or E-Scripting
- Knowledge of Retail/FMCG operations
- Understanding of drug and family planning products
- Experience in oncology or complementary medicine
- Proficiency in a third additional language
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with dispensing Schedule 1–5 medications and compounding non-sterile products
- Support re-packaging, labelling, and ordering of medication, including Schedule 6
- Interpret scripts, verify patient details, and capture accurate data
- Ensure medication is correctly packed and instructions clearly provided
- Follow up with patients regarding repeat prescriptions and script tracking
- Maintain patient profiles and assist with chronic, HIV, and oncology medicine authorisations
- Manage dispensary stock, report discrepancies, and follow FEFO procedures
- Participate in bi-annual stock takes and adhere to cash and asset control protocols
- Offer guidance in the self-medication area and explain medical aid processes to customers
