About the Role
The Shelfpacker position is physically demanding and requires a committed individual who can meet strict standards of hygiene, safety, and merchandise presentation. As part of the General Merchandise department, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the store runs smoothly, efficiently, and always looks its best.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with General Merchandise standards and performance targets
- Uphold hygiene and housekeeping standards across the floor and backup areas
- Adhere to security procedures to protect stock and company assets
- Ensure product displays are neat, organized, and properly priced
- Conduct quality checks to rotate stock and remove expired or damaged items
- Minimize wastage, shrinkage, and damages through careful handling
- Deliver exceptional customer service by offering product assistance and maintaining a professional attitude
- Respond promptly to tasks and show a sense of urgency
- Demonstrate flexibility by being multi-skilled and willing to work various shifts
- Continuously seek self-improvement and development
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate
- 2–3 years of retail experience (preferred but not essential)
- Ability to communicate fluently in English
- Must pass required assessments and interviews
- Valid South African ID (attach a copy to your application)
- Willing to undergo credit and criminal background checks
- Must live close to Pick n Pay Steeledale Hyper
- Flexibility to work shifts and be transferred between stores if necessary
