As a member of the dispensary team, you will assist with the safe dispensing of medication, stock management, prescription processing and customer support. You will play an important role in ensuring patients receive accurate medicines, professional advice within your scope of practice and a positive pharmacy experience. Key Responsibilities

• Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
• Support the compounding, preparation and manipulation of sterile and non-sterile medicines according to approved Standard Operating Procedures.
• Assist with the repackaging of medicines.
• Receive, distribute and control Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicine stock.
• Prepare prescriptions by selecting, labelling and supplying medication after pharmacist approval.
• Provide patients with accurate instructions on the correct use of prescribed medicines.
• Promote health by providing appropriate healthcare information within your scope of practice.
• Accurately interpret prescriptions and comply with South African Pharmacy Council regulations.
• Capture and verify patient information on the pharmacy system.
• Ensure medication is accurately picked, packed and labelled.
• Monitor common dosages and identify potential drug interactions.
• Stay informed about medical aid procedures, claims and dispensing requirements.
• Ensure all medication is checked and authorised by a pharmacist before supply.
• Assist customers at the dispensary, self-medication counter and front shop.
• Process medical aid claims and resolve rejected prescriptions.
• Obtain authorisation for chronic, HIV, AIDS and oncology medication where required.
• Maintain accurate customer profiles and respond to system alerts.
• Report low stock levels and stock discrepancies to the responsible pharmacist.
• Participate in scheduled stock takes and maintain stock control.
• Receive dispensary stock and merchandise products according to FIFO principles.
• Maintain excellent housekeeping standards throughout the dispensary.
• Follow company policies, Standard Operating Procedures and Good Pharmacy Practice standards.
• Comply with health and safety regulations and company uniform requirements.
• Assist with annual pharmacy declarations and Continuing Professional Development requirements.
• Promote loyalty card registrations and link them to customer profiles.
• Assist with Health Windows and blister packing activities.

Requirements and Skills

• Grade 12 with Mathematics (Higher Grade), Life Sciences and/or Physical Science, with an average of at least 50%.
• Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification.
• Registered with the South African Pharmacy Council.
• Good computer literacy and numerical skills.
• Strong communication and listening skills.
• Excellent customer service orientation.
• Strong problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work effectively within a team.
• Professional conduct, accountability and integrity.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective time management skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Retail FMCG experience will be advantageous.
• Knowledge of Unisolv and E-Scripting will be beneficial.
• Ability to communicate in a second South African language is advantageous.

Special Conditions of Employment

• Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council is essential.
• Must be physically fit and able to stand for extended periods.
• Valid driver’s licence or reliable transport.
• South African citizenship or a valid work permit.
• Clear credit and criminal records.
