Casual Front Shop Assistant Opportunity at Dis-Chem Loftus

Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ Local Choice Pharmacy in Hatfield, Gauteng, is seeking a Casual Front Shop Assistant. This contract position focuses on maintaining merchandising standards, restocking products, and delivering excellent customer service in line with The Local Choice Corporate Stores policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Restock merchandise to ensure maximum sales and maintain full product ranges.
• Store and pack delivered or storeroom stock in the correct locations immediately.
• Monitor product sell-by dates and apply the FIFO (first in, first out) principle.
• Rotate stock regularly and adhere to corporate stock control procedures.
• Keep the storeroom organized, neat, and tidy.
• Report low stock, damaged items, and expired stock to management promptly.
• Assist with cycle counts, stocktaking, and back shopping when required.
• Build, maintain, and face up merchandising displays according to corporate procedures.
• Maintain daily upkeep of store and merchandise displays, including shop floor and storeroom.
• Handle all merchandise carefully to prevent losses.
• Provide friendly and courteous assistance to customers and resolve stock-related queries.
• Ensure labels, pricing, and product knowledge are accurate and up to date.
• Adhere to store policies, SOPs, health and safety rules, and corporate uniform standards.
• Support training of new and current team members.

Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
• 0–6 months retail work experience; 1-year experience in retail is advantageous.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English.
• Must be trustworthy, client-focused, and detail-oriented.
• Must have reliable transport and, if applicable, a valid driver’s license.
• South African citizenship or valid work permit.
• Clear credit and criminal records.

• Strong customer orientation and interpersonal skills.
• Good time management, organization, and attention to detail.
• Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and meet targets.
• Awareness of merchandising standards, FMCG industry, and planograms is advantageous.
