As part of a strategic growth plan, the University of Stellenbosch Business School (which falls under the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences) is seeking to recruit full-time faculty members. The School has succeeded in establishing itself as one of the top providers of internationally accredited programmes in South Africa. The School enjoys the status of AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA international accreditations – reserved for only a few schools in the world. The post is available at Associate Professor or Senior Lecturer level, according to experience. The post is within the area of Development Finance, but applications from Development Economics candidates with experience and a background in Financial Markets are welcome.

 

Research is a particular priority for the School, which is in the process of building clusters of international research that is relevant to its mission of being a “knowledge partner of Africa in the world and for the world in Africa.” Hence applicants with a high research track record and potential will have an advantage. 

 

Duties:

  • Developing and delivering academic content in the development finance area (especially on the PhD, MPhil and Postgraduate Diploma programmes), whilst the ability to teach Project Finance and Infrastructure Finance in particular will be an added advantage;
  • supervision of postgraduate research at PhD and MPhil levels;
  • contribution to research and publishing research results in accredited, high-impact international journals;
  • participating in the administration of some departmental activities.

Requirements:

  • PhD in the area of Economics and/or Finance with a strong development focus;
  • proven track record of research in development finance;
  • strong research performance, evidence of active and continuous international scholarship, together with further development potential;
  • experience in supervising postgraduate students;
  • a record of supervision of Master’s and Doctoral students to successful completion;
  • experience in a senior leadership role and willingness to act in such a role.
