Job Overview

The Dental Assistant will play an important role in ensuring the smooth daily operation of the dental practice by providing chairside assistance during procedures and supporting patient care from start to finish. You will be responsible for preparing treatment rooms, sterilising equipment, managing stock and assisting with administrative functions such as appointment scheduling and treatment coordination. The role requires excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and a friendly, patient-focused approach. Successful candidates will work in a supportive environment that values teamwork, professionalism and ethical healthcare.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide chairside assistance during dental procedures.
• Prepare treatment rooms before patient appointments.
• Clean, sterilise and organise dental instruments and equipment.
• Maintain high standards of infection prevention and clinical hygiene.
• Monitor stock levels of dental materials and consumables.
• Order supplies when required.
• Assist with patient estimates and treatment coordination.
• Support referral processes and patient documentation.
• Assist with appointment scheduling and practice administration.
• Provide front desk support when required.
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
• Deliver professional and friendly customer service to every patient.

Requirements and Skills

• Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Dental Assistant.
• Previous dental assisting experience is preferred but not essential.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational and time management abilities.
• High level of attention to detail.
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy clinical environment.
• Professional and patient-centred approach.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Strong understanding of infection control procedures.
• Reliable, responsible and committed to quality patient care.

Working Hours

• Monday to Thursday: 08:00 to 17:00.
• Friday and Saturday: 08:00 to 13:00.

Salary

• R8,000 to R10,000 per month, depending on experience and suitability.
