Cape Herb & Spice in Tokai, Western Cape, is offering a 6-month contract for a Food Technologist Graduate within their New Product Development (NPD) – Spice division. This role provides early-career professionals an opportunity to gain practical experience in food product development, quality assurance, and technical problem-solving within a leading spice manufacturer.

Key Responsibilities

The Food Technologist Graduate will support the NPD team by coordinating technical projects, providing solutions to process challenges, and assisting in product development. Key duties include conducting research and building data sets across technical projects, coordinating recipe tastings, and ensuring that products meet safety and quality standards. The role also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure new products meet regulatory requirements and consumer expectations.

Requirements

Candidates should be recent graduates or early-career professionals in Food Technology, Food Science, or Consumer Science. Applicants must be organised, detail-oriented, and proactive. Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team are essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly intermediate Excel, is required to support technical and reporting tasks.

Work Environment and Exposure

This position offers exposure to all aspects of new product development, from research and recipe formulation to testing and quality evaluation. The graduate will gain practical experience in technical problem-solving, product safety, and collaboration with experienced food technologists and development teams.
