Key Responsibilities:
- Butchery Operations:
Operate all butchery equipment, including the bandsaw, following safety and operational procedures. - Product Preparation:
Prepare and break down various meat carcasses according to company specifications. - Meat Processing:
Perform de-boning of all meat cuts, manufacture mince, and produce sausages and boerewors. - Stock Control:
Control, merchandise, and promote stock according to set procedures and standards. - Quality and Cold Chain Management:
Check temperatures regularly and ensure strict maintenance of the cold chain. - Hygiene and Equipment Care:
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across all butchery equipment and utensils. - Receiving Duties:
Assist with receiving meat deliveries from suppliers and report any defective equipment or utensils to the Butchery Manager. - Customer Service:
Provide professional, courteous service and assist customers with their product needs. - Training Support:
Assist with training staff on new products and lines when required.
Required Skills and Attributes:
- Passion for the butchery trade and a strong sense of urgency
- Good communication skills, with the ability to listen and respond appropriately
- Customer-focused and a strong team player
- Attention to detail with the ability to complete tasks accurately
- Willingness to develop and grow within the role
- Physically fit and able to lift carcasses and meat containers
- Comfortable working in cold environments
- Knowledge of cutting and manufacturing various meat products (this will be tested)
- Compliance with medical criteria under the OHS Act for Butchery workers
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum Grade 10 qualification (Grade 12 is advantageous)
- Must reside close to Pick n Pay Woodmead Hyper
- Successful completion of a numeracy screening assessment
