Job Overview

As a Merchandiser, you will be responsible for maintaining attractive product displays, replenishing stock and ensuring shelves are fully stocked and correctly labelled. You will assist with stock rotation, stocktaking and general store housekeeping while following Dis-Chem’s merchandising standards and operating procedures. The role also involves assisting customers with product queries, reporting stock shortages and ensuring merchandise is displayed according to company planograms. You will work closely with store management and colleagues to maintain a clean, organised and customer-friendly shopping environment. This position requires attention to detail, good communication skills and the ability to work retail hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Restock merchandise to maximise product availability and sales
• Store delivered stock correctly and efficiently
• Check stock regularly to ensure products have not reached their sell-by date
• Keep the full range of products available on shelves
• Rotate stock using the First In, First Out (FIFO) method
• Report low stock, damaged stock, expired products and out-of-stock items to management
• Assist with stocktaking and stock counts
• Follow Dis-Chem merchandising standards, store layouts and planograms
• Ensure shelves are neatly presented with accurate pricing and labels
• Report pricing discrepancies to management
• Build, replenish and maintain merchandising displays
• Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of shelves and storeroom areas
• Assist with loading and off-loading stock
• Clearly mark products without barcodes
• Assist with back shopping and customer stock queries
• Help train new team members when required
• Provide friendly and professional customer service
• Wear the correct company uniform and identification badge
• Handle merchandise carefully to minimise losses
• Follow company policies, standard operating procedures and health and safety regulations

Requirements and Skills

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• Up to six months of retail experience
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office
• Willing and able to work retail hours
• At least one year of retail experience will be advantageous
• Strong command of the English language
• Good communication and customer service skills
• Trustworthy, honest and professional
• Good time management and organisational skills
• Bilingual ability will be advantageous
• Knowledge of merchandising standards and the FMCG industry will be beneficial
• Product and category knowledge will be advantageous
• Ability to analyse ZMORE reports for ordering and stocktaking is beneficial
• Physically fit and able to lift and move heavy boxes
• Reliable transport or residence close to the store
• South African citizen
• Clear credit and criminal record
