Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a Receiving Clerk to join its Noordhoek store in Cape Town, Western Cape. This permanent retail opportunity is suited to an organised and detail-oriented person who can accurately receive, verify and process stock deliveries. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring that stock moves efficiently from the receiving area to the store floor while following company procedures and maintaining accurate records.

The Receiving Clerk will work closely with the Receiving Manager, suppliers, management, representatives and other store employees. The role requires strong numerical skills, computer literacy and the ability to work accurately in a busy retail environment. You will also be required to handle physical stock, including lifting and moving boxes weighing more than 20kg. Candidates must be willing to work retail hours and should have reliable transport or live close enough to the store to meet operational requirements.

Job Overview

The Receiving Clerk is responsible for ensuring that all stock arriving at the Noordhoek store is received, checked and captured correctly. This includes verifying quantities, product variants and the condition of goods against invoices and delivery documentation. The successful candidate will also assist with returns, supplier claims, stock controls and maintaining an organised receiving and storeroom area.

Accuracy is essential because receiving errors can affect stock levels, sales and store operations. The successful candidate must therefore follow Dis-Chem’s Standard Operating Procedures, maintain accurate documentation and report discrepancies or damaged goods promptly. Good communication skills are also important because the role involves regular interaction with suppliers, management, representatives and store staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately verify, scan and capture physical goods received by the store.
  • Receive warehouse goods and invoices according to company policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Check deliveries and invoices to ensure that all information is accurate.
  • Confirm that goods delivered match the goods invoiced and captured.
  • Check quantities, product variants and the condition of received stock.
  • Return unordered, damaged or incorrect goods to suppliers according to company procedures.
  • Accurately complete credit notes for goods that are not accepted.
  • Assist the Receiving Manager with preparing and logging warehouse claims.
  • Ensure deliveries arriving at the store are receipted on the same day.
  • Maintain the efficient flow of stock from the receiving area to the sales floor.
  • Process supplier returns in accordance with Dis-Chem procedures.
  • Ensure physical controls in the goods receiving area are properly implemented and maintained.
  • Keep storerooms clean, organised and in an acceptable condition.
  • Assist with managing and controlling high-risk stock.
  • Follow all receiving, stock control and administrative procedures.
  • Report discrepancies, damaged goods and receiving issues to the appropriate manager.
  • Work effectively with suppliers, representatives, management and store employees.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate stock records and documentation.
  • Handle heavy stock safely and responsibly.

Requirements and Skills

  • Grade 12 or Matric.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Sound numerical skills.
  • Strong command of the English language.
  • Knowledge of receiving operating procedures and administration.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with suppliers, management, representatives and staff.
  • Sound analytical skills.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a busy retail environment.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy boxes weighing more than 20kg.
  • Willingness and ability to work retail hours.
  • Previous receiving, retail or FMCG experience will be advantageous.
  • Bilingual communication skills will be advantageous.
  • Experience operating a stock rotation system will be advantageous.

Special Conditions of Employment

Applicants must be willing and able to work retail hours, including operational shifts where required. The role involves physical work, and candidates must be physically fit enough to lift and move boxes weighing more than 20kg. Reliable transport or residence within close proximity to the Noordhoek store is required.

Candidates must be South African citizens and will be subject to credit and criminal record checks. Applicants should also be prepared to work according to Dis-Chem’s policies, procedures, health and safety requirements and stock control standards.
