Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited is inviting applications for a Receiving Clerk position at its Greenfields Store in the Eastern Cape. This is a permanent retail opportunity suited to an organised and accurate individual who can support the efficient receiving, checking and packing of stock in line with Dis-Chem policies and Standard Operating Procedures. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring that incoming goods are correctly verified, captured and distributed to the store floor without unnecessary delays. The Receiving Clerk will be responsible for maintaining an accurate and efficient receiving process from the moment stock arrives at the store. This involves checking physical goods against invoices, verifying quantities and product variants, identifying damaged or incorrect deliveries and ensuring that accepted stock is properly captured on the relevant systems. The role also requires close attention to procedures when dealing with returns, supplier claims and high-risk stock. Because receiving activities directly affect product availability in the store, the successful candidate will need to work efficiently while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Strong communication and professional interaction with suppliers, management, representatives and colleagues will also be important.
Key Responsibilities
- Accurately verify, scan and capture physical goods received for the store in accordance with company policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Receive all warehouse goods and invoices according to Dis-Chem procedures.
- Return unordered or damaged goods to suppliers and accurately complete credit notes for non-acceptance.
- Verify deliveries and invoices to ensure that all information is correct.
- Check that goods delivered match the goods invoiced and captured, including quantities, product variants and condition.
- Assist the Receiving Manager with preparing and logging warehouse claims on the warehouse claims system.
- Maintain an efficient flow of stock receipts through the receiving area.
- Ensure deliveries arriving at the store are receipted on the same day wherever required.
- Ensure received stock is processed and sent to the shop floor efficiently.
- Process all returns to suppliers in compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ensure all physical controls within the goods receiving area are implemented and remain operational.
- Maintain storerooms in an acceptable, organised and orderly condition.
- Assist with the management and control of high-risk stock.
- Follow established receiving, stock control and administrative procedures consistently.
- Support the Receiving Manager and wider store team with receiving-related duties when required.
- Maintain accuracy and efficiency when handling stock and related documentation.
Requirements and Skills
- Grade 12 or Matric is an essential requirement.
- Computer literacy is required.
- Sound numerical skills are essential for checking invoices, quantities and stock information.
- Applicants must be willing and able to work retail hours.
- Previous receiving, retail or FMCG experience will be advantageous.
- Knowledge of receiving operating procedures and administration is important.
- A strong command of the English language is required.
- Effective interaction with suppliers, management, representatives and staff is essential.
- Sound analytical skills are important when checking stock, invoices and discrepancies.
- Good time management skills are required to ensure receiving activities are completed efficiently.
- Candidates must be physically fit and able to lift and move heavy boxes weighing more than 20kg.
- Being bilingual will be advantageous.
- Experience with operating a stock rotation system will be beneficial.
- Applicants must have reliable transport and/or reside in close proximity to the store.
- Candidates must be South African citizens.
