Key Responsibilities
The Cook will be responsible for:
- Planning and preparing meals for the dredger crew, covering a two-week menu cycle.
- Drawing up menus that accommodate cultural and religious dietary needs.
- Preparing meals economically while ensuring quality and timely delivery.
- Setting up the mess room and maintaining cleanliness in catering areas, equipment, stores, and refrigerators.
- Supervising stewards and managing stock takes, including ordering and safe storage of provisions.
- Checking deliveries for quantity and quality before storing.
- Ensuring compliance with hygiene standards onboard the vessel.
- Maintaining punctuality and a neat work environment.
Required Qualifications and Experience
To qualify for this role, candidates must have:
- A Grade 12 certificate.
- An Efficient Cook Certificate of Competence.
- A valid SAMSA medical certificate.
- STCW compliance with relevant ancillary courses.
- At least 6 months experience working as a cook onboard a vessel, or 1 year with the Efficient Cook Certificate of Competence.

- Knowledge of hygiene principles both on vessels and in catering.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and neatness.
- Ability to plan and organize catering operations efficiently.
- Proficiency in English.
