Essential requirements:
Completed National Diploma in a technical field – Essential
Two years’ experience as a skilled operator working in a manufacturing environment
Strong mechanical/technical aptitude
Experience gained in a firing/heating process environment (kilns, furnaces) will be an advantage.
High accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to identify and appropriately respond to abnormal situations through the monitoring of kiln process controls and equipment
The ability to read and accurately interpret documents such as operating instructions and procedures manuals
Computer literate – Microsoft Office on at least basic level
Good communication skills (coherent, concise, concrete) both verbal and written
Quality and continuous improvement orientation
Highly flexible
Must have no constraints to work shifts through week ends and public holidays
Reliable transport is essential
Duties:
Maintain the correct conditions in the kilns through computerised process control systems.
Monitor controls and take immediate action to correct abnormal conditions.
Physically inspect the condition of the kilns and burners at regular intervals
Maintain graphs and statistics by taking hourly readings from kiln control instruments and related equipment and recording them accurately on control sheets and process control charts.
Operate the transfer car for loading and unloading kiln cars in/out of the kilns.
Do daily kiln and transfer car maintenance, MMOL and 5-S activity.
Preparation of the kilns for the next firing cycle.
Liaise with supervisor as required.
Monitor and record gas deliveries
Adhere to all environmental, health and safety responsibilities.
Fire fighter responsibility
First aider responsibility
