Dis-Chem Pharmacies is calling on qualified and motivated candidates to apply for a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant position at their Paarl Mall branch in the Western Cape. About the Role
The successful candidate will support the pharmacist in delivering effective pharmaceutical care, ensuring that patients’ medicine-related needs are addressed professionally and legally. The role also includes administrative and customer-facing duties, making it ideal for someone who is both clinically sound and service-oriented.
Minimum Requirements
To be eligible, applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- A Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification
- Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC)
Beneficial Skills and Experience
While not essential, preference will be given to applicants with:
- Retail or FMCG experience
- Familiarity with Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting
- A third additional language
- Experience in oncology, family planning, or complementary medicine
Key Responsibilities
- Dispense and sell Schedule 1 and 2 medicines
- Assist with preparation and packaging of non-sterile medicines
- Manage the distribution and stock control of medicines up to Schedule 5
- Order and receive stock, adhering to Dis-Chem’s SOPs
- Accurately interpret and process prescriptions
- Educate patients on the correct use of medications
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with medical aid claims
- Maintain customer profiles and handle chronic medication authorisations
- Monitor stock levels, report discrepancies, and support regular stock takes

- Detail-oriented and accurate with good numerical ability
- Trustworthy, reliable, and able to handle pressure in a fast-paced retail setting
- Competent in Microsoft Office and pharmacy systems like Unisolv

- Must be registered with the SAPC
- Willing to work retail hours
- Physically fit to stand for extended periods
- Must be a South African citizen with a valid driver’s license
- Clear credit and criminal records are required
