Role Overview

Minimum Requirements
To qualify for this role, applicants must have:
- Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
- 0 to 6 months of retail experience
Having 1 year of retail work experience and a certificate in Retail Business Management will be an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
The Frontshop Assistant will handle a variety of tasks to ensure a smooth shopping experience for customers:
- Keep shelves fully stocked with a neat and appealing product presentation
- Monitor stock expiry dates and remove outdated items
- Restock merchandise promptly to maximize sales opportunities
- Follow up on all customer out-of-stock queries in line with company procedures
- Properly store and pack delivered stock in the correct areas
- Ensure accurate labeling and pricing on all products, reporting discrepancies to management
- Maintain an organized and clean storeroom
- Stay updated on product knowledge to effectively assist customers
- Process customer transactions at the till, including cash, card, voucher, and coupon payments
- Handle customer exchanges and returns as authorized
- Process loyalty cards and ensure correct cash handling and drops
- Facilitate proper stock rotation and participate in regular stock counts
- Assist with back shopping and the loading/off-loading of stock when necessary
- Ensure that all merchandise is handled carefully to prevent losses
- Adhere to Dis-Chem’s housekeeping, health, and safety standards
- Report any suspicious customer or staff behavior to management
Competencies Required
Candidates should display:
- Strong knowledge of retail operations and administration
- Basic arithmetic skills for daily cash and stock management
- Good verbal communication abilities for customer interaction
- Problem-solving skills with the ability to escalate issues appropriately
- The ability to work independently and produce quality work with minimal supervision
Additional Advantageous Skills:
- Basic computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- SAP system knowledge
- Numerical accuracy for stock and cash handling
Special Conditions of Employment
Applicants must:
- Be willing and able to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays
- Be a South African citizen
- Have a clear credit and criminal record (MIE screening required)
- Possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transport (advantageous)
