Dispensary Support Job Opportunity at Dis-Chem Kyalami, Midrand

Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited has announced a contract position for Dispensary Support at its Kyalami store in Midrand, Gauteng. The position is designed for learners who will complete the basic pharmacist assistant course. The program equips learners with knowledge of the pharmaceutical environment, dispensing processes, and workplace quality standards. Successful applicants will be employed on a fixed-term contract until they are registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as learner basic assistants. Permanent employment may be offered upon qualification.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 or Senior Certificate.
  • Pure Mathematics with at least 50 percent.
  • Life Science or Physical Science with at least 50 percent.
  • An overall average of 50 percent.
  • Successful completion of a proficiency test to register with SAPC as a learner basic assistant.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. Duties include:

  • Selling Schedule 1 medicines.
  • Assisting with compounding, manipulation, and preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning dispensary and OTC shelves.
  • Accurately interpreting prescriptions and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
  • Picking, packing, labelling, and checking medication for accuracy.
  • Managing stock control, including monitoring expiry dates and reporting shortages.
  • Following up with patients on prescription tracking and appointments.
  • Handling call centre scripts and patient service queries.
  • Assisting with scheme authorizations for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication.
  • Reporting stock discrepancies to the dispensary manager.
  • Receiving dispensary stock in line with company SOPs.

Essential skills required include:

  • Proficiency in English and a second language.

  • Teamwork, accountability, professionalism, and integrity.
  • Time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer and numerical ability.

Advantageous skills include retail FMCG or Dis-Chem experience, knowledge of drug and family planning products, and proficiency in Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting.
