Library Intern Opportunity at IIE Rosebank College Cape Town

ADvTECH, through the Independent Institute of Education (IIE) Rosebank College, is offering a library internship in Cape Town. The role is available on a contract basis, with applications closing on 8 December 2025. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in library operations within one of South Africa’s leading private education providers.

Role Overview

The Library Intern will assist the Librarian in providing high-quality services to students. The position involves performing routine clerical duties, managing resources, and supporting library operations to ensure a professional and efficient environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate the circulation desk, including issuing, renewing, and returning book loans.
• Handle newspapers and journals, including scanning and clipping.
• Conduct daily shelf reading and maintain organized resources.
• Ensure all equipment such as computers, printers, and copiers are functional.
• Assist in updating notice boards and preparing library displays.
• Support students with computer use and OPAC searches.
• Maintain a neat and professional library environment.
• Provide clerical support, including photocopying, assisting during workshops, and checking subject guides and database worksheets.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Library and Information Science (NQF Level 7).
• Knowledge of the South African higher education system and regulatory framework.
• Strong time management and attention to detail.
• Customer service orientation and ability to work under pressure.
• Effective teamwork and communication skills.
• Adaptability and ability to cope with change.
