Motus Autoworx is looking for a reliable, trustworthy and responsible Polisher to join its Cape Town Speed Shop branch in Cape Town, Western Cape. This is a permanent opportunity for a candidate with relevant vehicle polishing experience and an interest in the automotive repair industry. The successful candidate will be responsible for polishing vehicles after the painting process to achieve a high-quality paint finish while ensuring that vehicles meet the required presentation and workmanship standards.
Job Overview and Responsibilities
The Polisher will be responsible for completing the final polishing process on repaired vehicles and ensuring that the paintwork is presented to a high standard before vehicles move to the next stage of production. The role requires attention to detail, careful handling of vehicles and the ability to identify and report any paintwork concerns.
- Check that paint is properly dry before starting the polishing process.
- Polish vehicles evenly without damaging or wearing through the paint surface.
- Inspect vehicles for overspray and report any issues to the Spray Painter or Production Manager.
- Check colour-match accuracy and report any concerns to the Spray Painter or Production Manager.
- Remove all excess polish before vehicles are handed over to assembly.
- Blow dust off vehicles before handing them over to the wash bay.
- Book hand-held tools and equipment into the storeroom at the end of each shift.
- Safeguard and take care of all tools and equipment at all times.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship throughout the polishing process.
- Follow all workshop procedures and safety requirements.
- Maintain a clean and organised work area.
- Complete assigned polishing tasks within required deadlines.
- Work effectively with Spray Painters, Production Managers and other workshop employees.
The position requires someone who takes pride in vehicle presentation and consistently delivers high-quality workmanship. You will need to work carefully around freshly painted surfaces and identify imperfections before vehicles progress to the next stage. Strong attention to detail is essential because incorrect polishing can affect the quality of the finished vehicle. You should also be able to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy and meeting production deadlines.
Requirements and Skills
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
- Relevant polishing experience.
- Two years’ experience in a paint shop environment will be advantageous.
- Valid, unendorsed Code 8 driver’s licence.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks.
