Dis-Chem Pharmacies Glenfair in Pretoria is seeking a Dispensary Support staff member on a fixed-term contract. This role is designed for learners aiming to complete the learner basic pharmacist assistant course, offering hands-on experience in a professional pharmaceutical environment. Permanent employment is offered upon successful registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a basic pharmacist assistant.
Role Overview
The Dispensary Support position provides practical training in pharmacy operations, dispensing, and patient care. You will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, learning the core skills required to assist with medication preparation, dispensing, and customer support.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines under pharmacist supervision.
- Support the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and SOPs.
- Help with unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning dispensary and OTC shelves.
- Accurately interpret prescriptions and ensure adherence to legal requirements.
- Pick, pack, label, and verify medications, while being aware of dosages and potential drug interactions.
- Assist in stock control, including checking expiry dates and organizing shelves.
- Follow up with patients on prescription tracking and appointments as requested.
- Handle patient service calls and provide information to promote health awareness.
- Support authorization processes for chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medications.
- Report low or out-of-stock items and stock discrepancies to the dispensary manager.
- Receive and process dispensary stock in line with company SOPs.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 or Senior Certificate with Pure Mathematics 50% and Life Science or Physical Science at an average of 50%.
- Completion of a proficiency test qualifying you to register as a learner basic pharmacist assistant.
