- Responsible for the overall news coverage
- Manages and coordinates the news diary
- Produces quality and exclusive news content that generates national conversation
- Develops story ideas on an ongoing basis
- Repackages, rewrites and edits news content from multiple sources
- Grooms and nurtures junior journalists
- Leads the paper’s investigations
- Represents the newspaper in various capacities when required by the editor

Requirements
- A three or four year qualification in journalism
- Minimum of five years’ experience on a mainstream daily or weekend newspaper
- Experience acquired on both weekend and daily publications will be an added advantage
- A thorough knowledge of journalistic ethics and media law
- Experience in news diary management
- A track record in news reporting and feature writing
- Knowledge of current affairs
- A commitment to high quality journalism
- Experience in working within a team
- A valid driver’s licence
Personal Skills/Attributes
- Above average command of the English language
- Ability to lead by example, show innovation and meet deadlines
- Ability to network
- Be prepared to work irregular hours
- Excellent news gathering, research, writing and editing skills
