Shop Assistant / Cashier Opportunity at Clicks Kempton Gate

Clicks Group is inviting applications for a permanent Shop Assistant / Cashier position at its Kempton Gate store in Kempton Park, Gauteng. This is an employment equity position in the wholesale and retail industry. The successful candidate will help deliver excellent customer service through accurate till operations, cash handling, merchandising and general store duties. You will also promote Clicks ClubCard membership, inform customers about current promotions and help maintain a clean and organised shopping environment. Applicants must have Grade 12. Previous experience in a customer-facing retail or FMCG environment will be an advantage.

Key Responsibilities

• Point of sale operations: Process customer purchases efficiently and accurately while following store procedures.
• Scanning and payments: Scan merchandise correctly, collect payments and process ClubCard rewards.
• Cash handling: Handle cash safely and follow the required cash management procedures.
• ClubCard promotion: Encourage customers to join Clicks ClubCard and help the store achieve its membership targets.
• Promotional activities: Inform customers about current promotions and special offers to support store sales.
• Customer service: Welcome customers, provide friendly and professional assistance and represent the Clicks brand positively.
• Merchandising: Maintain product displays and ensure merchandise meets the store’s visual merchandising standards.
• Housekeeping: Complete general cleaning and housekeeping duties to keep the store neat and organised.
• Product knowledge: Stay informed about products, ranges, promotions and events so you can give customers accurate information.

Requirements and Skills

• Education: Grade 12 is essential.
• Mathematics and English: A minimum of 50% in Grade 12 Mathematics and English is desirable.
• Retail experience: Experience in a customer-facing role within a retail or FMCG store environment is an advantage.
• Basic mathematics: Ability to perform basic calculations and handle transactions accurately.
• Retail knowledge: Understanding of merchandising, promotions and stock management procedures.
• Customer service: Knowledge of customer service principles and the ability to create a positive shopping experience.
• Communication: Good communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with customers and colleagues.
• Computer literacy: Basic computer skills to support point of sale and store operations.
• Numeracy: Ability to work accurately with numbers and payments.
• Planning and organisation: Ability to organise tasks and complete duties efficiently.
• Problem-solving: Ability to identify problems and respond appropriately.
• Customer orientation: A strong focus on understanding and meeting customer needs.
