We are looking for a motivated individual with community development experience and a passion for literacy to join our team

Nal’ibali is partnering with the Trevor Noah Foundation (TNF) to address some of the literacy development challenges faced at Seven Khulani Schools in Gauteng:

  • Braamfischer Primary School
  • JB Marks Primary School
  • Julius Sebolai Primary School
  • Khulanolwazi Primary School
  • Moses Kotane Primary School
  • Nkone Maruping Primary School
  • Nomzamo Madikizela Mandela Primary School

They will lead a team of fieldworkers Story Sparkers to implement a reading-for-enjoyment project at the seven schools, working with teachers and parents. They will be responsible for ensuring that project goals are achieved and that schools are inspired to build and sustain a culture of reading-for-enjoyment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage relationships between Nal’ibali, TNF and the seven project schools
  • Liaise with stakeholders and attend stakeholder meetings
  • With Provincial Coordinator, develop activity plans and guidelines for Story Sparkers’ daily, weekly, and monthly activities, and ensure that activity plans are implemented timeously and effectively
  • Ensure the delivery of reading materials to schools and support teachers on how to use them
  • Support Story Sparkers in running parent workshops and, coordinate events aligned to the project such as literacy festival, World Read Aloud Day and other events
  • Plan, coordinate and run training sessions for teachers in the seven schools
  • Monitor MER submissions from Story Sparkers, ensuring data submitted is high-quality and on time
  • Working with the MERL team, coordinate baseline and endline research at the 7 schools
  • Provide regular updates on project status; identify concerns, bottlenecks and challenges; and where necessary, troubleshoot and develop remedial actions, in consultation with the Project Coordinator, TNF and schools
  • Implement systems of accountability for project staff and follow up to correct instances of poor communication or delivery; give constructive negative feedback when needed
  • Ensure that the project team follows company policies, best practices, and standard operating procedures for the project
  • Conduct line management and performance evaluation for Story Sparkers and handle other HR matters arising
  • Ensure that all project-related documents are properly updated and maintained

Requirements:

  • A Self- Starter
  • 3-5 years’ field work experience in NGO sector. Programme implementation, community development, stakeholder engagement
  • Relevant degree or diploma advantageous
  • Sound knowledge on literacy development and/or the education sector in South Africa
  • Experience in managing and mentoring a team
  • Training and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrable experience of successful project coordination, programme implementation, stakeholder engagement and/or community development.
  • Proven skills in multi-stakeholder and cross-cultural engagement.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills in english and one other South African official language
  • Good MS Office skills and ability to work on different Microsoft packages
  • Driver’s license and willingness to travel essential
